Job matcher

Paste a job posting and get a match score, your gaps, and tailored materials in about a minute.

Paste a posting. See your fit, your gaps, and what to do about them.

What it is

The job matcher compares your profile against a specific job posting and returns an honest read: an overall match score, the skills you match (with evidence), the skills you're missing (ranked by importance), red flags to watch, strengths to lead with, and preparation tips. From the result you can generate a tailored cover letter, CV-tailoring suggestions, and likely interview questions — and send the job straight to your tracker.

Availability: Job-fit analysis is part of the Starter and Pro plans. The cover letter generator is a Pro feature.

When to use it

Before you apply. Use it to decide whether a role is worth your time, to see exactly where you fall short, and to generate application materials that speak to that specific posting.

How to use it

  1. Open Job matcher in the sidebar.
  2. Choose how to supply the posting:
    • Job URL — paste a link and we'll read the posting for you.
    • Paste description — paste the full text instead (at least 50 characters). Use this when a site blocks our reader.
  3. Click Analyze. The analysis takes up to a minute while we read the posting and compare it to your profile.
  4. Review your result:
    • Match score — a gauge labelled Strong fit, Moderate fit, or Stretch, with a short overall assessment.
    • Lead with these — strengths to emphasize in your application.
    • Watch for these — red flags, each tagged high, medium, or low.
    • Skills analysis — your matching Strengths (with evidence) beside your Gaps (each tagged critical, important, or nice-to-have, with a suggestion).
    • Preparation tips — concrete next steps.
  5. Generate materials from the result:
    • Add to job tracker — saves the role to your tracker.
    • Generate cover letter — a tailored letter you can Copy.
    • Tailor my CV — suggestions for reshaping your CV to the role.
    • Practice interview questions — likely questions, each with a suggested approach.

Past analyses appear under Past matches at the bottom of the page — click any one to reopen it.

Tips & best practices

  • Paste the full description. Title, responsibilities, and requirements give the sharpest analysis. More detail in, more accuracy out.
  • If a URL won't read, paste the text. Some job boards block automated reading — pasting always works.
  • Address your gaps before applying. A "critical" gap is worth closing (or meeting head-on in your cover letter); "nice-to-have" gaps rarely matter.
  • Complete your profile first. A low score often means a thin profile, not a bad fit — the matcher can only compare what you've told it.
  • Add background documents. They give the matcher real evidence for your strengths.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

  • "Failed to analyze position. Please try again." Usually a posting that couldn't be read — switch to Paste description and paste the text.
  • My match score seems low. The matcher compares your profile to the posting. Flesh out your experience and skills, then re-run it.
  • The analysis is taking a while. AI analysis can take up to a minute, especially on a first run — the button shows Analyzing… until it's done.
  • Can I re-open an old analysis? Yes — everything you run is saved under Past matches.
