Interview copilot

Live, private help during the real interview — invisible to screen sharing.

What it is

Interview Copilot is a native macOS app (Windows is coming soon). During a live interview it hears the question, reads your screen when you ask it to, and streams a suggested answer into a floating overlay that's excluded from screen capture — hidden from Zoom, Meet, Teams, Slack huddles, OBS, and macOS screenshots. It's tuned to your resume, so the answers reflect your real background.

Availability: The app is free to download with any plan. Live answer sessions are part of the Starter plan (15 minutes per session) and the Pro plan (unlimited).

How it works

1. It listens to both sides. The interviewer's voice comes from your Mac's system audio; your voice comes from the microphone. Both are transcribed on your Mac — the audio itself never leaves the device.
2. You decide when to ask. Nothing is sent to a model until you press a shortcut. There's no always-on answering.
3. It classifies the question. Behavioral, technical, coding, system design, or general — each routes to a different answer template and a different model, so a coding question gets depth and small talk gets speed.
4. It answers with your context loaded. Your selected CV, the job description, the company, and any background documents you picked are part of every prompt — along with your last 5 questions and answers, so follow-ups work.
5. It streams into the overlay. The answer appears word by word, rendered with headings, bullets, and code blocks, so you can start reading before the model finishes.

What's in the overlay

When to use it

During real remote interviews — behavioral, technical, coding, or system-design rounds where a prompt at the right moment keeps you on track. It also works for any business call: pick Regular Call at setup and it answers as a meeting assistant instead of an interview coach. Practice with mock interviews first; use Copilot when it counts.

How to use it

Install the app

1. On the Copilot page in your dashboard, click Download for macOS to get the DMG.
2. Open the DMG and drag Upskiller Copilot into your Applications folder.
3. Launch it and sign in with the same Google account you use for Upskiller.
4. Allow Microphone and Screen Recording when macOS asks. Both are required — screen recording is the only macOS API that gives an app access to system audio, which is how Copilot hears the interviewer.

Requirements: macOS 14 Sonoma or later, microphone and screen recording access, and an active Upskiller account. The app runs from the menu bar — there's no Dock icon and it doesn't appear in ⌘Tab.

Connect the app to your account

The first time you sign in, the app shows a code and links you to a connect page in your browser:

1. Click Sign in with Upskiller — the app opens the connect page for you.
2. Sign in if prompted, confirm it's your account, and click Allow.
3. You'll see You're connected — return to the app and it signs you in automatically.

Set up the session

Press ⌘⇧S (or pick New Session… from the menu bar) and fill in the setup window:

• Session Type — Interview or Regular Call. They use different prompts.
• Spoken Language — one of 13: English, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean. It's pinned for the whole session, which is more reliable than auto-detect on short audio.
• Job Post URL (optional) — paste a job link and click Scrape and Fill to populate the company and description automatically.
• Company and Job Description — fill in by hand if you didn't scrape.
• Resume — pick which of your CVs to use; your default is preselected.
• Context documents — tick any background documents you want loaded, like notes or a prep doc.

Click Start session. The setup window disappears and the overlay appears in the top-right corner.

In the interview

Watch the transcript ticker to confirm it's hearing the interviewer, then press the shortcut that fits the question — ⌘↩ for something you just heard, one of the screenshot shortcuts for something on your screen. The answer streams into the overlay.

When you're done, press ⌘⇧X. You get a recap window with the session length, every question asked, and the full answer to each — and the session is saved to your Upskiller account.

Keyboard shortcuts

Everything is driven from the keyboard, so you never have to move the mouse toward the overlay mid-answer. Shortcuts work globally while the app is running — you don't need to focus the overlay first. They're fixed (not customizable), and you can pull the same list up any time from Hotkeys… in the menu bar.

There's also a keyboard button on the overlay for typing a question by hand — useful when the question came through chat, or when you want to ask something the interviewer never said out loud.

Example scenarios

"Tell me about a time you disagreed with your manager." → ⌘↩

The classic behavioral question. Let the interviewer finish, press ⌘↩, and Copilot pulls their last turn out of the transcript, recognizes it as behavioral, and streams a STAR answer — situation, task, action, result — built from the actual roles on the CV you selected. Under 200 words, so it fits in a glance.

A LeetCode-style problem on screen → ⌘⌥↩

The interviewer drops you into CoderPad or HackerRank. OCR would flatten the code and lose the indentation, so use the vision shortcut instead: press ⌘⌥↩ and the screenshot goes to the model as an image. You get the restated problem, the approach and its tradeoffs, working code, time and space complexity, and edge cases.

The problem statement doesn't fit on one screen → ⌘⌥⇧↩

Long prompt with the examples below the fold. Press ⌘⌥⇧↩: Copilot captures the top, shows a 5 → 0 countdown badge in the overlay, and you scroll down while it counts. At 0 it captures again and sends both images as one continuous view.

A multi-part take-home walkthrough → ⌘⌃↩ … ⌘⌃S

The task spans a spec, a schema, and a failing test in three different tabs. Press ⌘⌃↩ on each one — the overlay shows a 1 / 6, 2 / 6, 3 / 6 strip of thumbnails as you go, and you can remove any shot you got wrong. Type a note in the composer bar ("focus on why the second test fails"), then press ⌘⌃S to send everything at once. ⌘⌃. cancels the whole thing if the interviewer moves on.

A dense job spec or a question typed into chat → ⌘⇧↩

Plain text on screen, where layout doesn't matter. ⌘⇧↩ captures the screen and reads it with Apple's on-device text recognition — only the recognized text is sent, never the image itself.

You missed a word, or want to ask something they never said → keyboard button

Click the keyboard icon on the overlay, type the question, press Return. It runs through the same classification and answering path as a spoken question.

A follow-up: "Can you walk me through that trade-off again?" → ⌘↩

Just press ⌘↩ again. The last 5 question-and-answer pairs from this session go along with the new question, so the model knows what "that trade-off" refers to.

"Can you share your screen?" → ⌘⇧H or ⌘⇧Space

The overlay is already excluded from screen capture, so nothing you do is visible to them — but if it's in your way while you demo, ⌘⇧H hides just the answer card and keeps the transcript running, and ⌘⇧Space hides the overlay entirely. Both toggle straight back.

Reviewing an earlier answer while a new one streams → ⌘⇧[ and ⌘⇧]

Copilot deliberately doesn't yank you to the newest card while you're reading. Page back with ⌘⇧[, forward with ⌘⇧]; the counter on the card shows where you are. ⌘⇧K clears the stack when you want a clean slate.

The overlay is sitting on top of something you need to click → ⌘⇧M

By default clicks pass through the overlay to the app underneath, and only the buttons catch input. ⌘⇧M flips that behavior. To just get it out of the way, use the move button for one of the 9 preset positions, or drag it.

Tips & best practices

• Set it up before the day. Install, connect, and grant both permissions well ahead — not five minutes before a call.
• Wear headphones. Without them, your Mac's speakers feed the interviewer's voice back into your microphone and both transcripts get muddy.
• Do a dry run. Start a session on a test call so you know where the overlay sits, how the shortcut feels, and that the ticker is picking up the other side.
• Learn three shortcuts, not sixteen. ⌘↩, ⌘⌥↩, and ⌘⇧X will carry most interviews. The rest are there when you need them.
• Glance, don't read aloud. Use it as a prompt to stay on track in your own words — not a script to recite.
• Lean on your profile. Copilot is tuned to your resume, so a complete profile makes its answers more like yours.
• Load the job description. Paste the job URL and hit Scrape and Fill — answers land closer to what the role is actually asking for.

Troubleshooting / FAQ

• My connect code expired. Codes are short-lived for security — reopen the app to generate a fresh one.
• The connect page says it was cancelled. You clicked Cancel — reopen the app and try again.
• It can't hear the interviewer. That's the screen recording permission. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, enable Upskiller Copilot, then quit and reopen the app.
• It can't hear me. Check the microphone permission, your system input device, and whether the mic button on the overlay is showing a red slash.
• Why does it need screen recording if it doesn't record video? It's the only macOS API that gives an app access to system audio. No video is recorded, and screenshots are only taken the moment you press a screenshot shortcut.
• A shortcut does nothing. Something else has claimed the same combination — Raycast, Alfred, BetterTouchTool, and Spotlight macros are the usual suspects. Quit them and try again.
• Is it really hidden from Zoom? Yes — the overlay is excluded from macOS screen capture, so it doesn't appear in shared screens or recordings. It's not hidden from a phone camera pointed at your screen or an HDMI capture device.
• Does my screen get uploaded? Only when you press ⌘⌥↩, ⌘⌥⇧↩, or send a multi-screenshot batch — those paths send the image itself. ⌘⇧↩ reads the text on your Mac and sends only that. Audio is always transcribed locally and never uploaded.
• My session ended at 15 minutes. That's the Starter cap, one session at a time. The orange countdown in the overlay shows what's left; Pro removes the limit.
• Where did my session go? Ending a session saves it to your Upskiller account, and the recap window shows every question and answer before you close it.
• I have an Intel Mac. The app runs, but transcription on Intel is English-only. The other 12 languages need an Apple Silicon Mac.
• Is there a Windows version? Not yet — Windows is in active development.
